Through a gift in your Will, you can help GOAL be there for families in crisis — long into the future.
For nearly 50 years, our supporters have been the driving force behind our work. A beacon of light and hope to the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world.
Thanks to compassionate and kind people like you, GOAL earned its reputation for being ‘first in, and last out’ when a humanitarian crisis unfolds. It means we hit the ground running, ready to roll up our sleeves and do what is needed. And it means we don’t leave until the job is done and families and communities can look after themselves.
We believe our supporters share many of the qualities of our founder, John O’Shea — passion, determination, and the desire to help those in need.
With a gift in your Will to GOAL, you’ll ensure your values and beliefs continue to make a difference for future generations of families facing crisis and poverty.
In 2025, around €1 in every €10 GOAL received from supporters like you, came from a gift in someone’s Will.
Quietly, gifts in Wills are one of the most powerful ways anyone can help GOAL continue its work for years to come.
Meet caring people like you who have chosen to leave a lasting gift to GOAL
Your gift can help communities build stronger futures, giving children, families and future generations the opportunity to survive, recover and thrive. Below, you can read some stories about how generous supporters like you are still making a difference.
“It was my privilege to visit the project that my parents’ last gift supported – building new houses in a very poor area of Uganda.”
Tiernan Dolan
“I grew up thinking about how hard other people had it, and it made me very grateful for the quality of life I had.”
Sarah O'Suilleabhain
Leaving a gift in your Will to GOAL
If you have decided to leave a gift in your Will to GOAL — thank you so much.
A gift in your Will, no matter the size, is more than a donation. It’s a way of investing in a future you may never see, but one that will exist because of your kindness.
We understand that looking after your family and loved ones comes first. Once you have provided for them, you may wish to consider leaving a gift in your Will to GOAL. Even a small share of what’s left can make a real difference.
Your gift will reflect all the things that matter to you and make you the person you are. Generation after generation will be touched by your kindness, your care for others, and your wish to leave the world a little brighter.
Getting started is simple. The first step is to speak with your solicitor about drafting a Will or amending your existing one to include a gift to GOAL.
GOAL also offers a free Will service. To find out how it works and whether it’s right for you, just get in touch. Joana Ramalho looks after gifts in Wills and is here to help, with no obligation at all. You can reach her at jramalho@goal.ie or on 01 726 6216.

Together, we’re always there when crisis strikes
Looking back
In 1977, when GOAL's founder, Dublin journalist John O'Shea, was moved to act on the poverty he witnessed in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), India, he set something in motion that has grown beyond one person.
When famine hit northern Uganda in 1979, only two years later, GOAL was on the ground, handing out food and providing medical care to sick and hungry families. And shortly after, GOAL was one of the first humanitarian organisations to enter Cambodia in the aftermath of a democide that claimed more than two million lives.
Moving forward
Nearly 50 years on, that same mission continues. Today GOAL works in 18 countries — one of the first on the scene when crisis strikes, and staying long after to help communities recover and rebuild.
That is only made possible thanks to generous supporters, like you, who, like John O’Shea, can’t look away. Supporters who want to do whatever they can to help transform struggling families into strong and resilient communities, equipped with the tools and resources they need to look after themselves and thrive.
Through gifts in Wills left by our supporters, we will continue to be first to respond in a crisis, whenever and wherever we’re needed.
