What is Development Education?

With our Development Education programme, we are contributing to raising a generation of Global Citizens that understand and critically reflect on our interconnected world and can act in pursuit of a more equal, fairer and sustainable world for all.

Inspiring new Global Citizens

GOAL's Global Citizenship team works with primary and secondary schools across Ireland. Our Development Education workshops, resources and awards aim to explore how global justice issues interlink with children’s daily lives, challenge stereotypes and encourage critical thinking. We are passionate about ensuring young people believe a sustainable and fair future is achievable and equipping them with the tools to help contribute to this future.

We offer: A range of lesson plans, programmes and school workshops across the island of Ireland.

While we can’t be in your classrooms during the COVID-19 crisis, GOAL is supporting teachers in continuing Global Citizenship education with learning initiatives which will help you keep engaging with your pupils: Global Sparks and GOAL Changemakers.

Contact our Development Education team at for further support. We would love to hear from you!

Once it is safe to return to the classroom for us, GOAL will continue to run workshops with primary and secondary schools to build understanding around the role we play in a rapidly changing and interdependent world.

The 'Humanitarian School' award

GOAL's development education programme has grown in popularity with Irish schools over the years. We use this experience to develop engaging, though-provoking and inspiring activities that work for children of primary
and secondary ages.

The 'Humanitarian School Award' recognises the incredible work carried out by students and teachers in this field. Winning schools get a certificate from GOAL and will be be added to our very own Honour Roll!
