In an effort to transform and safeguard the dignity of the most vulnerable communities, GOAL, in partnership with Humanity & Inclusion and Water Mission, is initiating a multi-sectoral humanitarian response in Honduras.
This initiative, scheduled for implementation between June and November 2026, is financially backed by the Humanitarian Fund for Honduras. Its primary objective is to systematically address the urgent needs of 145,552 people across 13 priority municipalities in the Central District, Valle de Sula, Atlántida, and Gracias a Dios departments.
Luigi Loddo, Deputy Director for Latin America and the Caribbean at GOAL, remarked, “This initiative, backed by the Humanitarian Fund for Honduras, underscores GOAL’s dedication to Honduras and our capacity to collaborate with the global humanitarian framework and the Honduran government. In collaboration with Humanity & Inclusion and Water Mission, we are able to amalgamate various technical proficiencies to deliver a genuinely comprehensive response. Operating concurrently in regions facing such formidable challenges as the Central District and Gracias a Dios necessitates meticulous coordination and a deep sense of humanity. We are utilizing our on-the-ground expertise to guarantee that every action in assistance, protection, and equity effectively reaches the communities that require it most in a timely fashion.”
A thorough response provided where it is most essential
The beneficiary communities have encountered crises that range from the profound effects of climate events to issues of human mobility and violence. These circumstances have exacerbated the disparities in access to essential services and daily sustenance.
To address this challenge, the consortium will implement an action plan centered on critical areas such as:
- Immediate humanitarian assistance: Provision of direct support to address fundamental needs.
- Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH): Ensure access to safe water and hygienic conditions.
- Protection: Secure environments and systems for at-risk populations.
- Prevention of violence against women and girls: Focused initiatives to reduce risks and offer specialized assistance.
Furthermore, our initiatives adopt an inclusive approach aimed at ensuring that assistance prioritizes and effectively reaches those experiencing the highest levels of vulnerability, with particular attention to individuals with disabilities.

Collaboration and synchronized leadership
These actions are interconnected; they form part of the Humanitarian Action Plan of the Humanitarian Network of Honduras (Plan de Acción Humanitaria de la Red Humanitaria de Honduras), spearheaded by the United Nations and the National Secretariat for Risk and Contingency Management (COPECO). The aim is to enhance the efforts of the Honduran State, bolstering response capacity in regions where humanitarian deficiencies remain.
In this context, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Honduras emphasized the significance of this partnership: “This funding enables us to implement a tangible humanitarian response in the areas where needs are most pressing. It represents a coordinated effort aimed at reaching those in greatest need promptly.”
Through this concurrent intervention, GOAL and its consortium partners, H&I and Water Mission, reaffirm their dedication to enhancing community resilience in intricate contexts throughout the country.
