GOAL Miles will take place in 150+ locations across Ireland. Register for your local GOAL Mile now.
Authors, Paul Howard and Emer O’Neill joined forces today to encourage families across Ireland to lace up and register for GOAL’s flagship Christmas fundraising event, the GOAL Mile, proudly supported by AIB. The event is a much beloved Christmas tradition, and sees tens of thousands of people run or walk a mile (just 2,000 steps) in villages, towns, and cities across Ireland and around the world. Funds raised go towards GOAL’s humanitarian aid programmes in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Ukraine. This year, there are 150+ GOAL Mile locations to choose from and it is expected that over 25,000 people will participate, meaning 50 million steps will be taken across all the Miles.
Speaking about why he champions the GOAL Mile every year, Paul Howard said,
“The GOAL Mile embodies everything that the Irish people love about the holidays. It not only offers a wonderful opportunity to bring families, old friends, and communities together to have some fun, it also presents a perfect opportunity to support a fantastic charity that helps the most vulnerable communities across the world, who face extreme poverty and crisis.”
“During 2023, we have witnessed a deadly mix of crises because of conflict and natural disaster across the world and GOAL has responded to all these crises, helping communities affected most from crisis to resilience. So, I feel honoured to ask the people of Ireland to register for their local GOAL Mile and continue to support this extremely valuable Christmas tradition” continued Paul Howard.
Speaking about the third year that AIB is supporting the GOAL Mile campaign, AIB Group CEO, Colin Hunt said,
“AIB is delighted to continue to support GOAL, one of Ireland’s largest humanitarian response agencies. Participating in the GOAL Mile enables communities across the island of Ireland to come together to help vulnerable communities.”
“In this, the third year of our proud partnership with GOAL, we are encouraging the people of Ireland to celebrate this uniquely Irish tradition and to step up together by registering for the GOAL Mile and walk 2,000 steps, in support of GOAL’s year-round work” continued Colin Hunt.
