GOAL CEO, Siobhán Walsh, today welcomed AIB onboard as lead sponsor of the humanitarian agency’s flagship fundraising event, the GOAL Mile. Today Ms. Walsh joined AIB CEO, Colin Hunt, to celebrate the beginning of an exciting three year partnership, which sees AIB backing the communities across Ireland that support GOAL every Christmas.
Celebrating its 40th year this December, the GOAL Mile is a Christmas tradition in neighbourhoods and towns across the island of Ireland. Each year, it sees families and friends, young and old, getting out for a walk or run at Christmas to raise vital funds for the world’s most vulnerable communities. With a GOAL Mile happening at over 150 locations, this is a truly unique, inclusive and heart-warming event.
This year, with the backing of AIB, the GOAL Mile will reach more communities throughout Ireland and, virtually, across the globe. Thanks to AIB, the growth of the event will empower GOAL to support even more communities affected by climate change across 14 countries.
At today’s announcement GOAL CEO, Siobhán Walsh, thanked AIB and all its employees for this transformative commitment to an iconic event.
“The GOAL Mile has played a critical role in GOAL’s fundraising strategy for 40 years now. With the backing of AIB for the next three years, our excitement and ambitions for this event have soared. Today AIB is standing with the hundreds of communities across Ireland that already know and love the GOAL Mile. AIB’s partnership shows incredible compassion for the communities in need across the world that this event supports. GOAL helped more than 14.3 million people in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America last year. We could not have achieved this without the continued support of the Irish people.”
She added: “We are honoured to welcome all at AIB into the GOAL family this year. We look forward to AIB’s 9,000+ staff and wide customer base standing with GOAL as we continue our mission to help communities to respond to and recover from humanitarian crises.”
AIB CEO, Colin Hunt, said: “AIB is proud to partner with GOAL for the GOAL Mile, a renowned and long-standing event that helps transform the lives of the world’s most vulnerable people. We know that the GOAL Mile is already at the heart of many of the communities we serve and we look forward to sharing the joy of this unique event with our staff and customers. At AIB we are committed to building a sustainable tomorrow today, and by supporting GOAL we are reaching those communities that are already suffering deeply from the impact of climate change. With this sponsorship we will stand together with communities in every corner of Ireland, and in solidarity with our global family”.
