Major global issues such as immigration, gender inequality, climate change and the refugee crisis will form part of a unique public arts campaign to raise funds and awareness for GOAL’s work in October and November.
One hundred resin globe sculpture, painted and designed by some of Ireland’s top artists, are currently being exhibited at various locations nationwide, while they are already attracting bids from all around the world at the project website at www.goalwhatonearth.ie.
Some artists have teamed up with familiar faces from the worlds of sport, fashion, broadcasting and design, all of whom were encouraged to bring their own perspective to the project.

Some personalities to lend their support include golfer Padraig Harrington; former international athlete Sonia O’Sullivan; television presenter, Lisa Cannon, legendary jockey, AP McCoy and Irish rugby star, Jordi Murphy. Former Dublin footballer, Alan Brogan, worked with one of Ireland’s leading portrait artists, Mark Baker, on a ‘Dublin Gaelic Football Legends’ globe.
From the world of fashion, Helen Steele has created her own cosmic technicolour piece; renowned Irish fashion photographer Barry McCall designed a globe around the challenge of global pollution; while New York-based designer, Don O’Neill, produced a glittering globe around the theme of love.
One of Ireland’s leading garden designers, Leonie Cornelius, worked with award-winning jeweller and goldsmith, Martina Hamilton, for a globe titled ‘Precious Matter’ which represents the powerful work that GOAL does globally.
GOAL also commissioned a special globe designed by members of the agency’s project for street children in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Other Irish artists taking part in the project include multi award-winning names such as Donald Teskey, Tom Climent and Neil Shawcross; street artists, Joe Caslin and Maser; Mayo teenager, Hetty Lawlor who was a finalist in the Sky Arts series ‘Portrait Artist of the Year’; and Leah Hewson, whose multi-layered globe and eye-catching geometric pattern is in keeping with her style of work.
The online auction is now open at www.goalwhatonearth.ie and the globes will remain on that site and open to bidding until Thursday, November 28th at 7pm. Following the nationwide tour (dates and locations below), a Live Auction will take place on November 21st in Buswells Hotel, Dublin where 25 Golden Globes will be auctioned off by DeVere’s Fine Art Auctioneers.

Liam O’Neill and Walter Castellazzo have created a unique globe entitled ‘I’m an immigrant’ to highlight that no matter where you are from, we are all immigrants with a right to move from one place to the other.
