What We Do

Working across five sectors

GOAL delivers a wide range of humanitarian and development programmes. The organisation recently finished work on a Strategic Plan for the 2019-2021 period. You can read more below.

Emergency

GOAL’s emergency response focuses on saving lives and alleviating human suffering, prioritising needs such as food, water, shelter and other non-food items.

Such responses often transition to longer-termed programming, where the focus shifts to health, food and nutrition security, and building sustainable livelihoods.

Health

GOAL works in fragile contexts, improving access to responsive and resilient health systems that can provide quality, accessible and efficient health, nutrition and WASH services to communities.

GOAL also understands the importance of supporting people to develop their ability to care for their own well-being. Any intervention involves supporting the resilience of public and community systems that respond to the needs of communities they serve.

NUTRITION

Food security is one of the key underlying determinants of good nutrition, focused primarily on the availability of food, the economic and physical access to food, and the stability of food supply.

GOAL’s work aims to improve subsistence production, improve commercial production, link producers to markets and make more nutritionally diverse foods available to communities.

Livelihoods

GOAL designs programmes that foster the development of resilient livelihoods by focussing on the capabilities, assets and activities that people require to create and maintain a living.

The development of market-based skills and the promotion of financial inclusion are vital parts of this work. GOAL places specific emphasis on supporting livelihoods for women and youth.

GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP

GOAL is committed to strengthening its engagement with the general public and society leaders, with the aim of empowering people’s understanding of what constitutes a fairer and more sustainable world for all.

GOAL seeks to enhance the knowledge, attitudes, values and skills of young people, students, teachers, leaders and duty-bearers on the roles they can play in addressing the causes and consequences of poverty and inequality.
