With generous funding from Jersey Overseas Aid, GOAL has been providing emergency support to respond to the needs of displaced communities in Ethiopia.
In June 2018, with funding from JOA, GOAL was able to reach 530 displaced families (more than 2,500 people) in East Hararghe Zone with emergency shelter and non-food item kits.
These kits contained the items essential for daily life in a dignified manner – such as kitchen sets containing cooking utensils, plates and cups, hygiene sets with soap, blankets, mattresses and bed sheets, water storage containers, and shelter materials. These basic items are making a real difference in people’s daily lives and are helping to ensure that children and adults have shelter to protect them from the cold and rain.
In discussions with the displaced communities during GOAL’s post-distribution monitoring, the targeted women and men outlined how important this support was for them and their families. They were satisfied that the items distributed were of high quality and felt the response addressed critical shelter and non-food needs.
GOAL is very grateful for this funding from JOA that has enabled us to reach these vulnerable communities with emergency shelter and non-food item support.
