In 2021, GOAL welcomed a new five-year partnership with Irish-based construction company Kingspan Group. As part of the ambitious €1.5 million project, a new wing is being constructed at Puerto Cortés Hospital in Honduras. The new wing will be named in memory of Sayri Molina, a dedicated GOALie who sadly lost her life to the Covid-19 pandemic. Sayri will be forever remembered for her hard work and selfless commitment to local communities.
GOAL teams will play a crucial role in project implementation, using Kingspan’s sustainable products and systems to build a state-of-the-art, hygienic, and safe 12-bed ward for general care in the hospital. This increased capacity will help to provide critical care for patients in a community greatly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Puerto Cortés Hospital was overwhelmed when Covid-19 began to spread locally. When Hurricane Eta and Lota hit later that year, devastating local communities, the hospital struggled to cope. It became clear to staff that the facility did not have sufficient capacity to meet the needs of the community.
Dr. Nelson Hernández, Director of Puerto Cortés Hospital, explained further: “Many times, the hospital wards are overcrowded due to the number of beds. Beds are very close together, and this makes it difficult for us to attend to patients.
Dr. Hernández continued, “I’ve been very excited about the project since I first heard about it. Thank you to Kingspan and GOAL for partnering and improving the hospital facilities.”
