Pat O’Mahony passed away in Mayo University Hospital on 19th November 2023 and as we near the end of 2023, GOAL's Board of Directors and Staff, would like to extend sincere sympathy to Pat’s family on their loss.
Mr O’Mahony served on GOAL’s Board of Directors from 2011 – 2017 and served as Chairperson for a two-year period from 2012 – 2014. During that time, Mr O’Mahony was instrumental in leading the Board of Directors and the organisation through years of immense and important change and challenge for GOAL. As a retired banker and Director on other Irish Boards, Pat brought superb energy, rigour and structure to GOAL’s Board and complementary Advisory Boards, ensuring the required skills and expertise were always around the boardroom table to provide good governance and effective oversight to the agency’s Senior Management Team.
Speaking about the passing of Mr O’Mahony, Anne O’Leary, new Head of Meta Ireland who also served on GOAL’s Board of Directors with Mr O’Mahony said,
“Pat was tenacious in getting the job done and getting it done very well and always displayed sensitive people skills and often with gentle humour. We deeply appreciate Pat’s contribution and leadership which strengthened GOAL’s way forward and we wish his siblings, children, and grandchildren in Mayo, Dublin, and Cork our condolences at this time of loss.”
