"There is no doubt that by virtue of his determination, selflessness and generosity of spirit, Fr Jack helped save thousands of lives across the developing world."

"The General Manager of GOAL, Celine Fitzgerald, has expressed the sincere sympathies of everyone at GOAL to the family and friends of Fr. Jack Finucane, following his untimely passing on Wednesday."

“As a former missionary and co-founder of Concern Worldwide, Fr Jack was both a pioneer and a leading light of Irish humanitarianism,” said Ms. Fitzgerald. “ I would also like to pass on the thoughts and sympathies of everyone in GOAL to our colleagues in Concern on this sad day.

“Along with his brother Aengus, Fr Jack was one of the first Irish people to push Ireland to the forefront of international humanitarian relief efforts, following the work carried out by both men to help organise the delivery of thousands of tonnes of food and other vital and life-saving assistance to the starving of Biafra in the late 1960s.

“By fighting for the poor, the marginalised and the vulnerable for almost his entire life, Fr Jack has left a remarkable legacy that every Irish person at home and abroad can take great pride in. There is no doubt that by virtue of his determination, selflessness and generosity of spirit, Fr Jack helped save thousands of lives across the developing world.

“His work has served, and will continue to serve, as an inspiration to Irish humanitarians at home and abroad.”
