GOAL’s Global Partnership Center (GPC) coordinates context specific leadership training for our local partner organisations in Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. Established in mid-2023, the GPC seeks to help local partners cultivate new competencies, strategies, systems, and structures to improve their overall effectiveness.
MUCOBADI
GOAL’s Global Partnership Centre co-sponsored a team from Leading International Futures Together (LIFT) to conduct leadership training for one of GOAL’s local partners in Uganda, MUCOBADI. The LIFT Facilitator Training is one example of how the GPC is enhancing staff and partner efficiency in GOAL’s countries of operation.
MUCOBADI, founded in 2000, is a Uganda-based civil society organisation and humanitarian development agency. The organisation implements community resilience and long-term development programmes aimed at addressing the socio-economic causes of poverty and inequality.
MUCOBADI is one of GOAL’s local implementation partners for the Young Africa Works: Markets for Youth programme in Uganda. The programme uses a market systems approach to help 300,000 young Ugandans access dignified and fulfilling work in the agricultural sector.
LIFT Facilitator Training
A team from LIFT trained eight participants to become LIFT roundtable facilitators. LIFT is a group action learning approach proven to be highly effective for the improvement of personal leadership skills; piloting in Uganda, this will be subsequently cascaded to other GOAL country programmes. The training participants included GOAL Uganda staff, MUCOBADI staff, NextGen alumnus, and GOAL Global Partnership Centre staff.
The facilitator training covered the basic tenets of leadership, with a specific focus on values that translate into behaviours, leading to better choices, sustainable change, and consequently better leadership at the workplace.
It equipped participants with the required skills to effectively facilitate LIFT roundtables. Roundtables are a simple 5-step process for small groups, fostering individuals’ reflections on leadership values like listening, positive attitudes, and respect.
All participants experienced practical facilitation sessions in preparation for the facilitation role that they will undertake as they cascade the LIFT approach to other staff in both GOAL and MUCOBADI.
The day culminated with participants’ certification as LIFT facilitators, who will direct roundtable discussions with various groups of GOAL Uganda and MUCOBADI staff to enhance understanding and demonstrate leadership behaviours that exemplify the core values of both organisations.
