A team of dynamic young Irish people aged between 18 to 25 years of age have been selected by GOAL to shape its youth engagement programme for the next year and beyond. The 13 youth advisors and committed global citizens will guide GOAL in creating its youth programme to ensure their voices, needs and dreams of young people are embedded, and that the programme is relevant and grounded in global justice

"This exciting project will guide GOAL on developing its understanding of how we interact with development issues at local, national and international levels."

The first in a series of three workshops for the Volunteer Youth Advisor Project (VOYA) took place on Saturday, October 26th, in Dublin.  Two more workshops will take place before the end of the year.

GOAL’s Engagement Officer, Aislin Lavin, said the response to a call out for youth advisors was phenomenal, signalling the eagerness of young people to share their experience, insights, and to act on global issues that affect them, and those in the Global South.

“This exciting project will guide GOAL on developing its understanding of how we interact with development issues at local, national, and international levels. Our Youth Advisors will be holding discussion groups within their local communities and explore collaboration with their peers in the Global South.”

She said GOAL is committed to creating spaces in which young people have the opportunity to discuss the issues that are most important to them and can access the support that allows them to take action toward a more sustainable future.

”Young people in Ireland are curious, critical, and well informed. The VoYA Project gives GOAL an opportunity to listen to the ideas and insights of our youth and invites them to co-create a brand new Youth Programme that is relevant and sustainable. Our first workshop showed us just how ready the Youth Advisors are to collaborate at local, national, and international levels for a just and fair future for all. We’re so excited to see what they come up with at our 2nd workshop!”
