GOAL's Development Education Programme for Schools

GOAL offers free interactive workshops and resources (including lesson plans) for your class or school. We work with primary and secondary schools across Ireland and cover a wide range of topics including poverty, drought, climate change, migration, the refugee crisis and conflict.

What is Development Education?

Development Education is an educational process. It aims to increase public awareness and understanding of the rapidly changing, interdependent and unequal world in which we live.

By challenging stereotypes and encouraging independent thinking, Development Education helps people to explore how global justice issues interlink with their everyday lives and it engages people in analysis and reflection. GOAL understands that young people are the future and that learning about the world in which we live, and the global issues that affect us all, is critical to understanding our role as global citizens. Therefore, increasing awareness and understanding about the world is an essential element of GOAL's work.

2018/19 School Year Achievements

  • 131 Schools Visited

  • 68 GOAL Humanitarian Schools

  • 6076 Students Reached

Our Development Education programme has grown in popularity with Irish schools over the years. Teachers have described GOAL workshops as 'excellent in raising awareness of global issues and helping children to believe that they can be agents of change in the future' and 'well delivered and inclusive of all.'
