GOAL achieves this through ensuring the most vulnerable households have increased, equal and sustained access to safe water, sanitation services and hygiene promotion. GOAL develops and promotes gender-sensitive sanitation facilities, with the full and equal participation of women and men. GOAL also promotes the dissemination of key hygiene messages and promotes improved hygiene practices to address the underlying causes of malnutrition in both rural and urban communities.
GOAL works closely with national Honduran institutions such as SANAA, FHIS and SEIP as well as mancomunidades (associations of municipalities), municipalities and local water communities in order to promote innovative solutions to improve access to basic services. Where appropriate GOAL supports the implementation of Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) and PEC-Water Initiatives in order to maximise community ownership of WASH activities in the community.
