Alan Vard is a marketing and events professional with over 20 years’ experience in the area. He started his career with Coca-Cola and worked across a range of marketing-related roles. This included Event Marketing Manager, where he managed Coca-Cola’s promotional team and took charge of all sponsorships and events. He ran his own company - Vard Promotional Solutions – which specialised in promotional materials and services marketing, before joining GOAL in 2013. As National Campaigns Manager, Alan is responsible for all GOAL’s fundraising campaigns and events.
Alemayehu Kuma is GOAL’s Global Food Security and Livelihoods Advisor, and provides organisation-wide strategic, technical and programming guidance in this critical area.
From Ethiopia, Alemayehu has spent more than 20 years in the humanitarian and development sectors across various countries, including South Sudan, Uganda, Djibouti, Kenya, Ethiopia, West Africa and The Middle East.
Anteneh Tadele is Media, Documentation and Visibility Officer for GOAL in Ethiopia. Travelling widely as part of his job, Anteneh has become one of GOAL’s key generators of images, video and other forms of content. His role sees him interview GOAL staff, as well as individuals and families that GOAL works with on a daily basis. The content that Anteneh provides is used by the organisation to communicate its work to the wider public. Anteneh has been working with GOAL since 2012.
Eamon Sharkey joined GOAL as Head of Fundraising in April of 2008. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from UCD, and Masters in both International Development and Business Administration. Before joining GOAL, Eamon was Head of Donor Fundraising in Trocaire, and brings over 12 years experience in marketing, e-commerce, communications and fundraising in Ireland and Australia.
Else Kirk is GOAL's Regional Director for the Middle East, based in Turkey. Else has 17 years of experience in the humanitarian sector including leading GOAL's Ebola response in Sierra Leone. Else joined GOAL in South Sudan in 2007 where she worked as Area Coordinator, shifting to the Darfur programme in 2009 and subsequently taking up the role of Head of Programmes for Sudan. Prior to that, she worked in Zimbabwe and Zambia for the Danish Association for International Cooperation and DANIDA for six years where she worked as a financial advisor and administrator.
Else spent the first 18 years of her life in Zimbabwe, where her family is engaged in agriculture. Else has an MA in Development Studies from the University of South Africa, where she specialised in Gender Studies; and an MSc & BSc in Economics and Business Administration from Aarhus School of Business in Denmark.
Else starts every day with warrior poses (yoga) and is an avid jogger.
From Omagh, Geraldine is GOAL’s Global Health and Social Behaviour Advisor.
She has 24 years’ experience in the management of global health, nutrition and HIV response initiatives throughout Africa.
Geraldine joined GOAL in 2013 and was a senior member of the GOAL’s Ebola response team from 2014 -2105.
She is instrumental in ensuring that GOAL’s health and social behaviour programmes are evidence based and achieve lifelong impact for GOAL’s communities.
Hatty Barthorp works within GOAL’s programme quality management team as a Global Nutrition Advisor. She hails from the UK but has spent the majority of her professional career living overseas with her husband and three small children. She has worked in Cambodia, Pakistan, Turkey/Syria, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Burundi, DRC, Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Niger, Mali and Sierra Leone. Hatty has 15 years’ experience of working with programs across the humanitarian-development nexus.
Hatty gained a Degree with Honours in Biomedical Sciences with Psychology at Southampton University, going on the attain a Masters in Public Health Nutrition from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She also has qualifications in communications, advertising and marketing as well as in arts and design.
Hatty specialises in providing strategic, technical and programming guidance, working with communities, governments, civil society partners, academic institutions, donors and in specific cases with appropriate private sector partners. In conjunction with the nutrition team, she supports the development of evidence based solutions, focused on the identification of specific problems and their associated causes.
Kasem Hijazy is GOAL's Area Coordinator in Syria.
From Aleppo, Kasem joined GOAL in July 2012, shortly before the organisation began their emergency response programme inside Syria. Since then, he has - and continues to play - a major role in helping us reach hundreds of thousands of conflict-affected Syrian people with life-saving interventions.
As Area Coordinator, Kasem is responsible for managing GOAL’s programme in Syria and leads a team of more than 400 Syrian staff.
